i currently work in the radiology department as an assistant practitioner, my role involves taking x-rays that are of a diagnostic standard, these are then checked by the qualified radiographer. I also perform portable x-rays on patient that are to unwell to come to us. Another duty i perform is DEXA scanning, this is a scan to check the bone strength of patients. i assist in getting patients changed and prepared for their scans and help assist radiographer with there duties too.
Although i have had previous jobs before i believe that within this current role communication has to be of a very high standard. we have to make sure we communicate effectively within our team and also with other multi disciplinary teams to ensure medical errors are kept to a minimum, so i believe that my communication skills have developed significantly.
The current apprenticeship that i am undertaking i enjoy. i feel that the things we learn in classes i can apply to my job role on a daily basis. it has made me more aware of my practice and how i do things and i think this benefits me and my patients.
The course is fairly well organised, there has been times of confusion and uncertainty at times, but this course was run through the pandemic so i feel this could have been a reason why it wasn't as organised as it could of been. it was a new way of teaching for the tutors.
My employer has been very supportive whilst doing my course, my study leave has always been granted and i have always been allowed time for appointments with the work based tutor. they have had regular check up with me to see how i am getting on and to see if there is anywhere they can support me further.
One tutor in particular was extremely helpful always there for support everyday. she was available and would arrange one to one meetings if you was struggling with any assignments. She pushed me to do better in my assignments and went above and beyond. The other tutors was ok but was not as readily available.
I do feel that by doing this course i am far more aware of my professionalism and the what the expectations of me in this role are. I reflect a lot more now about situations and i have started to do CPD al in all i feel this course has really helped me in my place of work.
Although we don't have any sporting events or social activities at work we do have CPD evenings that are very informative and help in areas which i am not as strong in. These also give m the opportunity to build up CPD which could be very handy for the future.

I have had family members attend Rotherham hospital and they have always received care and compassion to a high level. Although its a smaller trust I do believe there are lots of opportunity's for progression, and I can vouch for this myself. I would recommend this hospital.
i would say to wok hard and always put patients first. Also to work well together in your team but also in the other multi-disciplinary teams it is far better all round for everyone. Make sure that communication is the highest standard it can be and just be friendly and approachable.
