My role includes working in the Foods and Refreshments Digital Hub. My average day includes working with the Social CMs, PR and my line manager. I am responsible for running the social accounts of a few food brands. I am also responsible for keeping an eye on social and getting insights into trending recipes so our brands can create content or jump into conversations.
I have learned lots of new skills. I have been taught SEO, social, copywriting, built on my communication skills and also mainly how to better my project management skills.
I hugely enjoy my apprenticeship programme. I feel I am given lots of responsibility and have been given the opportunity to own large projects. I work with great people and really feel a part of my Team. My skills have developed hugely since I started in all aspects.
My programme is very well structured. I work 4 days a week for Unilever and study one day a week at London South Bank University. I have daily catch ups with my line manager and also whole team meetings twice a week.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. They are very understanding of my need to balance my day job with my university work. They are always there to support me when I come across any blockers however they also are willing to let me learn and own projects.
I receive support from my University when submitting assignments and learning new modules. The module leaders are always open to putting in extra time if needed to discuss any issues or if anything is unclear.
I feel most of my modules are relevant to my job role. They are closely linked to my job role however some I feel the skills needed I will not use currently however this could change in the future when I rotate roles.
As it has been virtual working so far, the social events in person we have been unable to do. However we have two Team socials per week which is a chance to play games and have fun aside from speaking about work together.
Yes
Unilever is a great company to work for. I have made lots of connections and my skills and confidence have developed immensely. I have been mentored however also left to my own devices to learn and work independently to run projects which is a great way of learning how the business works and build my network.
Be confident in your interview, show your passion for the business and own it.
