The Apprenticeship includes lots of hands on maintenance and installation of HV electrical equipment up to 400Kv, about half of the 3 years is dedicated to training courses including city and guilds and practical training skills.
I have learnt many new skills from basic hand skills and fabrication tools, to MEWP licenses allowing me to progress my career wherever it takes me.
I enjoy the program very much and have made many new friends, however staying away from home for a year and a half on and off is hard and strains relationships and friendships but more will be made along the way.
The program is well structured and has been the same for years gone by, due to the COVID 19 pandemic it was put on hold and it was a struggle to restart and get back on target with training but was doable.
I receive a large amount of support on a local level from colleagues or line managers, less support comes from the training staff however.
In the first year a large amount of support was given however this has since dropped to a near non-existent level, almost left to struggle on out own with no replies or acknowledgement.
The qualification I received has helped my massively in my practical role however a year after completing it I am still waiting on my official certificates, and cant progress without them.
There are extra activities to get involved with such as running and step challenges, colleague relationships are highly upkept and people meet up on weekends to perform activities such as group exercise, football and outdoor sports.
