  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a cabler which involves pulling cable through the network, getting people connected. Without the cabling infrastructure being pulled in, customers would not be able to receive internet and the cables would not be able to be jointed and spliced in the access boxes. I also problem solve and attend jobs were front lin engineers have difficulty getting a customer connected.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have found the training to be very well structured and easy to follow, using numbered items and tasks which are clear and concise and make it easy to understand what was required on any given item. The current pandemic situation made things more difficult with not being able to do things face to face but MS teams has been a worthy substitute.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have found that the support level I have received from my employer has been fantastic, from the buddy I work with on a daily basis to my direct line manager and other colleagues in between, it has been a great support network and inspired me to be as supportive to others and especially the new starts coming into the team.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately, since I started with Openreach on 1st June 2020, the country and world at large has been in the grips of pandemic which has effectively killed off any opportunities for anyone to be able to engage in extra curricular activities at the moment. There does seem to be some light at the end of the tunnel now though so hopefully that will change in the not too distant future.
