  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work with an engagement team working on an array of different clients. I work on workbooks testing different accounts such as cash, debtors etc and help the team in auditing the financial statements of clients. I also have calls with clients, at the moment via Teams calls to discuss various aspects of the audit.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skill whilst working as an auditor at EY. My communication skills have massively increased as I have meetings and catch up calls daily with both my team and the clients. My understanding of accounting and how businesses work has been greatly improved. My time keeping skills have also increased as we have deadlines we need to meet

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my program. Every day is different, day to day you can be working on different clients, testing different accounts and working with different teams and people. This makes every day interesting and exciting. The people I work with are all lovely and I have met some friends for life

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the programme is fairly structured, as we are sitting our accounting exams alongside working. This helps me with both succeeding in my exams and work as they go hand in hand. However, I believe that more time off for exams is needed, as it is difficult balancing exams and work

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a lot of support from my employer. When you start you are given a buddy - who has been there a year so understands how you are feeling. You also have a counsellor - who is an assistant manager. your counsellor is there to help you with your career pathway and to help you with any issues you experience in work. You are also given an apprentice coach who is there to talk to when you are feeling overwhelmed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At the moment we are receiving our training from home. We are having lessons online over zoom , they are not as interactive as in person learning. However, there is still the ability to ask questions to the tutor. There are lots of tools that they provide online, such as mock exams and knowledge tests that are very helpful

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that the qualification is essential in helping my performance in work. Every exam i sit provides me with more and more knowledge that I use in work that helps me in understanding things such as financial accounts and how businesses work. It works the other way too, the things I learn in work aid me in my understanding in my exams

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are so many societies and social events to get involved with. In my office in particular, there is a 5 a side football team and a golf team. There are also lots of societies to join such as the women's society and the muslim society. Obviously, due to covid we have not been able to go out for social events, but speaking to other colleagues who have been here longer, there are normally socials every month

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend EY to a friend as it is a very friendly and welcoming company to work for. You are provided with so much support and guidance and there is a real sense of people wanting you to succeed. The job is so interesting as you get to work with so many different clients

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would say, make sure you research the company and look at what the company stands for and what its values are. I would also look more in-depth at the service line that you are applying for, making sure that it is the right fit for you. Finally, just be yourself
