Working with colleagues and suppliers to provide valuable input into real projects. I’ve not only gained experience as an engineer, but gained an understand of how other departments work such as commercial or finance.
I’ve learnt how to manage projects, improved on how I can effectively work as part of a team and understood how I can apply my own experiences to solve problems.
I have loved the first 2 years on the scheme. Getting to see how some of the learning from the degree I am studying for is transferred into the real world. There have also been opportunities for trips and to gain that experience.
The structure of the programme is very clear regarding what is expected at each stage of the apprenticeship. The management team has grown in size which has only benefitted the scheme and looks to be continuing to grow and improve as I go through the scheme.
I’ve been able to easily contact my apprentice manager with and issues I have had and support has been provided quickly when required.
The lectures have been available to answer any questions or help with issues I may have had most of the time
My NVQ which is completed alongside the degree has provided direction as to what work I have carried out and has provided a basis on which I can use to become a well rounded engineer
I have been able to get involved with the sports clubs with the university and have signed up as a member of the IET enabling me to attend webinars and networking events they host.
Yes
The work atmosphere is very friendly with more senior members of staff happy to help and guide me in day to day work passing on their years of experience.
Have a think about what part of defence you are passionate or excited about and display this in your application. There is such a broad range of domains and projects making the scheme really exciting.
