  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Installing and fixing faults within the telecommuncation network. This involves working in different parts of the network, such as customers houses, pcps, distribution points and exchanges. It also involves going to multiple locations and providing top quality service to customers from different communcation providers so they receive a good quality connection and fault free line.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I believe I have learnt a wide variety of new skills while working in this job, from my initial training at Yarnfield and even during my time out in the field; working alongside other colleagues and attending different workshops and training days. My colleagues have always helped me when needed and continue to offer the support and experience to allow me to give good quality service.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme. It allows me to push myself and increase my knowledge across the network. I enjoy working outdoors and working both on my own as well as along side my colleagues. I believe I will stick to this job and work my way up the career chain.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe this programme is very well organised and very well structured. I believe you get a good amount of knowledge from the initial training, as well as the buddying stages. I believe the workshops for the programme are also well structured and well managed. I also like how well you are looked after during the probation period and throughout the apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I believe I receive a lot of support from my patch lead and manager. They continue to check up on me and reassure me that they are there to help and assist me in any way I require. I also receive a lot of support from the assessor throughout the workshops.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe I receive a lot of support from my training provider. My training assessor is very thorough with the knowledge and powerpoints in regards to the portfolios we have to complete and the expectations of our portfolios. I find the workshops very helpful and knowledgeable and my assessor informs me, he's happy to help me meet the expectations.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe like my qualification through my training provider helps me to perform better in my role by providing me with more knowledge of the role and more knowledge about different points in the network. It also helps me see the role behind the more quality side of the network and customer importance

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I believe there is some extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work, such as social activities and sports teams, from what I have heard from other colleagues and from what I have seen on the workplace app. However at the moment everything has been cancelled due to the current pandemic,

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe Openreach is a very good company to work for and has plenty of good jobs and has a lot of potential and possibilities to progress in the career. I believe its a very sustainable job and comes with loads of benefits as well as a good team and management.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • The tips and advice that I would give to others who apply for a job/career at openreach would be to think of it as a career and think of how they would want to progress, if they wanted to progress. As well as the skills and training involved with it.
