Day-to-day roles vary depending on the project that you're assigned to. My current day involves starting off with a daily stand up meeting to raise any concerns and delegate tasks. These usually involve things such as bug fixes and testing.
During boot camp, I was able to learn a lot of programming skills. Since starting on project I have been able to put these skills in to practice and have learnt a lot about how large-scale projects work. There are always opportunities to attend courses to develop skills further.
The apprentice programme is very exciting. The programme evolves based on the feedback from apprentices and has recently changed to spread the work load. I love my day job and have the opportunities here to learn all that I want.
Extremely. I feel like I have become part of a community; both and apprentice and company wide. It is easy to get rewarded and recognised when the hard work is put in.
The apprentice programme has recently been restructured but we have always been informed of the changes, all of which are beneficial to us.
Our training is provided externally, but I meet my assessor regularly where we can discuss progress and the work that needs to be undertaken.
We receive lots of employer support. Project managers are keen to help us develop as well as people higher up in the company. The apprentice programme is well known throughout the company which means everyone is always keen to help out.
We receive excellent salaries for apprentices and the framework for progression is second-to-none
There are lots of opportunities to get involved with external events. I have attended hackathons supported by Capgemini and I'm also involved with one of the local charities.
Yes
I have learnt more here than when I attended university. The work is hard but it's also very rewarding and I look forward to coming to work every day.
Have an interest in technology. Nothing can beat a genuine love of the subject and willingness to learn about it.
