For the first year of my Apprenticeship I am based at Furness College, this entails two days of classroom based work followed by one day working from home (due to COVID-19) on a behaviours curriculum program then two days in the workshops. My role is too learn and gain as much knowledge as I possibly can ready to go into the business later on this year. Followed by a day release to College for the next two years. This has been extremely interesting and I have really enjoyed this so far!
Yes I have learnt a lot more skills and knowledge to do with my trade, both theory and practical sides. I have also learnt a lot more from our Behaviours curriculum which has helped not just me but others to develop their own personal skills such as interview techniques how to make presentations interesting all skills we will need when we go into the business and need to do PowerPoints but also to develop us as people.
On a scale of one to ten, I would say eleven and I am not just saying this to make the company look good etc I really mean it. I enjoy this program so much as there is the perfect mix between practical and theory which is great. The knowledge I have been taught is excellent and the way they teach this too you is in a way that if you don’t understand it they will spend time making sure you do, which is really great too see. The business is really there for you as the amount of help schemes they have for employees is amazing! Which is really good and reassuring that they are here for the workforce.
The program is really well designed and structured as there is a perfect balance between the practical elements and the theory elements which is great as I do not want too much of each and having little of the other so the way the company balance this is really good. The company have a plan for us to see and to track our progress and the time and money that they have put into us is unbelievable.
We receive a lot of support from our employer such as well-being checks (monthly) and the use of the company’s free help lines and doctors to help you with anything you may have which is absolutely amazing to know that they company puts time and money into these services just in case they need to be used.
The training provider is brilliant, as If you do not understand the lesson they will organise and make sure you do get what has been said as they often reiterate we will say it a thousand times until you get it and will put measurements in place to make sure this happens which is great to know and see!
As this is wear most of the training comes form for the first year then on day release for the second and third year. So this helps us to understand both theory and practical sides of our job.
Yes there is a few that I am aware of such as the Apprentice council and STEM activities that are arranged whilst in the business, I will know of more when I go into the company. (Later on this year)
Yes
As they are a blue chip global company with lots of work for the foreseeable future, who look after their workers and every day is different. Plus there is a lot of opportunities within the corporation as from having first hand experience of going to America as my dad received an offer to go there from the business so there is opportunities to travel with the business all around the world too if you put the work in you will have a job for life!
Be confident, know what you want to do, try to sell yourself explain all the good quality’s you have, your experiences and what can you bring to the table. If you put the work you will start to see results!
