Our role includes assembling and manufacturing parts and learning different skills by attending college 5 days a week, working on different techniques such as hand fitting, machining and assemblies/ disassemblies. We are soon going into BAE’s training centre to progress in our apprenticeship and further improve our skills and knowledge.
I have learned many new skills as well as developing ones I already had previously to joining, when working in the workshop as well as classroom work, improving communication skills within the working scene, this has helped me to overcome problems and jobs as well as working individually or as a team.
I am enjoying my program which I am in as it is enjoyable and informative as well as meeting new people, it helps when we are all learning new skills and developing our selves to suit the job, much of it is hands on work which I really enjoy either working on my own or as a team.
The programme is relatively well structured although there are a few improvements which could be made relating to help if it is required as if I was ill or had to ring up to request a day off I would find it hard to get through to someone and would be unsure.
We get a bit of support on things such as transitions, training days or other extra curricular events e.g confined spaces training this is made aware to us as well as what tasks we need to complete before we transition, what the rest or next step in our apprenticeship will be.
The training provider gives a lot of support and guidance, there is a lot of work to be done although they help us organise our assignments to allow is to be less stressed and complete what needs to be completed before we transition further into our apprenticeship so we are up to date.
I Believe that it is a good performance booster as it teaches us key skills to use and understand different scenarios when working on different areas within the company and as well as training tasks within the training schools/ colleges, the new skills and knowledge we learn greatly helps us to exceed.
I don’t personally get involved in many extra curricular activities but there are activities to complete such as charity events including beach cleans and cycling events, these can be taken part in and are very easy to join, many people are interested and I will be attending one or more in the future.
Yes
I would recommend it to a friend as I am enjoying it so far, it is a great experience and working for a successful and expanding company there will be plenty of jobs which will be able to be kept for life if completed well and work hard within it.
I would give someone advice such as work hard and don’t mess about make sure you listen and get all work completed by the deadlines, this will help when you are in the company as you show you can keep up with demand and meet deadlines which is vital.
