I am a BAE systems design apprentice. I am currently doing a level 3 diploma in advanced manufacturing engineering at Furness college. My job uses CAD to design parts of the submarine.
I have learnt a lot of new skills since starting my apprenticeship. One new skill I have learnt is how to use CAD. This is an important part of my job. I have also developed personal skills such as teamwork and communication.
I really enjoy my programme and I find it very interesting. I enjoy my time at college and I am excited to go into the business to experience the work place.
My programme is well structured and organised at Furness college for the most part.
I receive good support from my employer. We do reviews to see how well we are doing in our apprenticeship and there are always people we can talk to if we are unhappy or struggling with work or personal problems. The employer made this clear from the start.
I received good support from my training provider whilst working toward my qualifications. The tutors at Furness college are always helpful and they are a big part in helping me be successful in completing my course.
My qualifications will help me perform better in my role as they give me the relevant information I need to do well in my apprenticeship.
Due to covid, there are not too many chances to get involved in extra curricular activities, but usually there are a lot of opportunities to get involved. We are going to do an outward bound which will develop team working skills and many more.
Yes
BAE systems is an extremely successful company that anyone would be happy to work for. I am very happy working for such a successful business. They provide many opportunities within the job which develop your personality and skills.
The advice I would give is to stand out from the crowd and try and let your personality show through in interviews. Also, make sure to know information about the company to show your interest in the job.
