  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I attend college Monday to Friday with written based lessons Monday and Friday and practical work Tuesday to Thursday completing practical assessments and writing about the jobs we have completed in the work shop. We learn different skills to be able to better learn our trade and complete our tests.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt more about the machining side of engineering and how to operate the lathes and milling machines and better get with in tolerances. I have developed my existing skills of tools but feel I am more comfortable when using them now and feel I get better finishes then I did

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the course I have chosen and feel it was the right move for me, I feel that the tutors in college have been very helpful and that the layout of the course so far has been helpful. I enjoy the practical and college based tasks we do day to day

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the program is well structured and provides enough time and lessons to complete everything you need to and the tutors are accommodating and will help you out where needed. I enjoy that the majority of our time is in the workshop and I have better learnt my trade through this

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel that if I ever needed help I would be able to receive it by either face to face or email. We were given numbers for HR and other services that we are able to to ring if I ever felt that I needed to ring them, I could.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Overall 99% of my tutors are great and I feel that I am able to get any support that I need. One of my tutors I feel doesn’t fully understand the course and I have struggled with her lesson and have had to self teach myself to be able to pass the course

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have learnt a lot from this year at college and I feel that the support from my training provider has given me the right first steps in to This trade and I feel ready to enter the business and carry on my development even further through the rest of this course

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I believe there are clubs that you are able to join if you wish although I haven’t really heard anything about them, so hearing more about these may better benefit other colleagues on the course who wish to participate in these extra curricular activities outside of the work place

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel it is a great training program for people wanting to get into engineering and I would recommend it to friends and family and so far have been very happy with the course so far and feel that the lay out has been set out well and easy to follow


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Research the company and the role that you have think you may want to take to better see if it is for you. Make a good CV out laying your qualities that are relevant to you and the role and attempt to try and do something related to the role so you have more of an idea what it is
