  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My working day consists either academy based work or patch based work, with the academy side we learn the theory and practical of gas and heating when we go on patch for a certain period of time we learn more specialised training in problem solving for heating systems and gas appliances

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I had previously taken a level 2 plumbing course and was halfway through level 3 when I decided to come to this apprenticeship the skills I learnt in college such as soldering, bending, installing heating and gas appliances has increased in what I can do and how fast I can complete it, I have also learnt lots of new stuff to do with gas and developed problem solving skills for domestic systems

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is very enjoyable I met 10 other apprentices and lots of other staff at British Gas they are all very welcoming and friendly and that has continued throughout the apprenticeship, also the training is the best in the industry and is great to learn from the industry leader.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The business being a large scale company means that in some areas it is unorganised but from the most part from the academy to the apprentices it is organised and we have set weeks where we will be going over a topic such as central heating and completing within that week new pipe work to and existing cylinder for example

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support from British Gad is amazing, British Gas is the leader in the gas industry which also means the support for when you work is great if you have any issues or ever need any help there is always someone to talk to or someone to help you solve your problem

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support for train in within the company is great you can access a massive amount of resources such as adapt which can get all the information for most boilers ranging for all that we cover additionally there is the staff which have in depth knowledge of the industry and are happy to help with anything

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training from British Gas is the best I feel like I’m getting the best training and with the mixture of patch and academy allows me to be better in my role of gas technician also access to adapt and other programmes within the business allow me to find everything for most boiler

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There was extra curriculum event such as the duke of Edinburgh but due to COVID 19 we postponed the course, it also has maths and English functional skills of which I do not have to take part in as I’m exempt, they are the only things that British Gas take part in,

  • Yes

  • I would recommend British Gas to a friend because it is a good company to work for the training is high tier and the best for the gas industry they cover multiple sides of the construction industry not just gas and which all are carried out with top tier training


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Gas?
  • Tips I would give to people wanting to apply for this job is if you like hands on working, problem solving or how things work then this would be a interesting a good tip is if you have experience previously is that it will help with basics however this training is more in depth
