I go to college five days a week which starts at 9am. We do a range of learning to do with engineering that includes maths, further maths, electrical principles, CAD, project, and various other lessons. The aim of this is to come out with a level 3 engineering qualification at the end of the year.
I have learnt lots of new skills that include how to write reports properly, how to use new software such as the CAD software. I have learnt a lot of new things that I never have studied before such as further maths and things to do with electrical principles as I have never needed these lessons before.
I enjoy my programme a lot as I feel like I learn something new each day although with having lovkdowns this year it has made the learning experience a bit more difficult as we have had to learn from home so have not had all the resources that would be easily accessible available to us.
The structure of the programme started really good, even though some of us had a late start to the year compared to other people, the tutors did their best to help us catch up and in some lessons even finish all of the work already. Since we have nearly finished the year the structure has gotten easier to deal with.
The support I recieve from my employer is amazing to be honest. I know that no matter what my problem is, no matter how big or small it may be, not only do we have someone available to us to see at all times, but there are people who I can call who would not have any problems with me talking to them about anything.
The support I recieve from my tutors at college is really good. I know if I am struggling with anything I can ask for help or if I don't understand something they will all take time out to explain it to me again even if it is a different manner to how they are teaching it just so I understand.
At the moment the training I recieve in order to get my qualification is as far as I have gotten towards my role so far. I know that the qualification I receive will help me a lot when I do start my role and that there are aspects of my learning which will be a huge bonus to helping me do my job properly and efficiently.
At the moment there are no extra curricular activities for us to get involved with. However up until now we have done a resilience day with the outward bound staff which was a really good day, and I have also done confined space training. This offered me the opportunity to meet new people from the business and to learn what they do.
Yes
I think its a really good business, that whilst they care about what they do and make they also care a great deal about their staff. Making sure that everyone is working safe and to good standards, and helping them with their mental and physical health if need be. Overall I am really glad I got an apprenticeship with them.
After applying twice in the past and being unsuccessful, but knowing that I wanted to get into the business so much I kept trying and I got in on my third go, so if I was to say anything it would be not to give up. Also if they do get in it would be to follow all the rules as they are there for a reason and to keep the people safe.
