I rotate around the business to gain a large knowledge base and understanding of the business and its processes and different working styles. I am currently in the Logistics department where I have been great responsibility such as conducting the Logistics payroll, investigating issues using the SAP system to trace material settlement variances or stock tracing.
Developed many new skills such as staff management of pay, holidays etc; Operating machinery; investigation and disciplinary processes; developed my excel skills and personal skills such as presenting through the many training courses provided by Stateside and the University.
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship and love coming to work as everyday is a different and is an opportunity to learn and develop.
My placement is operational so my placements are longer in these areas but I still have opportunity to experience non-operational departments which aids in my overview of business processes and understanding decisions made in production.
We are provided with a study day per each assignment to aid us in balancing university and work.
Lecturers are always on hand to help and give pointers on certain areas that need clarity.
Theory and networking with other apprentices from different companies aids me in having a different perspective on certain situations and gain different ideas on how to improve certain processes or understand how to best manage certain situations and people.
I think this may be an area for improvement as I think there is space to develop more extra-curricular clubs after work to promote networking, health and wellbeing. The company provides a free membership to the gym and also DCO days and weeks which are extremely enjoyable and enriching for self-development and networking.

Stateside Foods is a brilliant company to work for that is fast paced and fast growing. Every day is different and as an apprentice provides great opportunities to learn and self develop with each day and staff are always on hand to offer support.
An apprenticeship is not the easy route as you have to be able to manage your time and manage work and University. University work must be completed little and often in order to stay focused and achieve to the best of your ability and you must be prepared to adapt and work hard within each department in order to gain the full benefit of the placement.
