Providing business improvement functions to a highways maintenance contract in Cheshire, my role includes: Managing annual audit programmes for managers, team leaders, supervisors and offices/depots Carrying out internal audits to ISO standards Facilitating external audits Reviewing and developing process documents Managing a corrective and preventative action process Managing a health and safety reporting system
Definitely, throughout my apprenticeship and work career. I've worked with the organisation from the age of 16 where I did a level 2 apprenticeship. From there, my skills have been continually developed! My communication skills particularly, the apprenticeship has enabled me to have the confidence to speak to people at all levels.
So far I am really enjoying the programme. I'm completing a degree, alongside gaining the experience in the workplace and having the time and space to complete my studies. In university I learn all the theory and management techniques behind processes and in the workplace, I am able to apply it.
I'd say my programme is really well structured. We complete a unit at a time then submit the associated assignments before starting the next. We also complete a project unit throughout the course of the year, learning the management theories and project management skills alongside delivering the project in the workplace.
I cannot fault my employer when it comes to support. I am provided 20% off the job time, meaning at least every other week I am given a day to complete research and assignments. I have also been provided with a mentor in a similar field, who offers me academic and mental support.
I'd say overall the support from my training provider is fantastic! This, of course, depends on each unit as every tutor is different but overall the support I've received has been amazing. Particularly one tutor who will always go out of his way to offer me advice and support for my assignments.
I feel the training and learning from my qualification has 100% helped me to perform better in my role. It's allowed me to get exposed to different areas of the business, as well as top management processes to really understand the business strategy and in turn, understand what I'm working towards everyday and why.
At present, there aren't any extra curricular activities to get involved in at work, however, this is mainly due to COVID restrictions. I suppose we've had some online networking events such as coffee mornings, quizzes and charity events. We do however have a massive social event at the end of the year planned to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.
Yes
It's just a great company to work for, there are many opportunities, so much support available and we're just one big team! There are great programmes available for those who want to continue their education. There is a lot of mental health support available also, so it really stretches beyond a job and more a community.
The advice i'd give to others applying to Ringway Jacobs or anywhere else is to be yourself! An interview is the opportunity to show yourself off in 30 minutes - it's very difficult to say everything you want to do and what you'll bring in that time so really make the most of it.
