  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an apprentice for a team who work on a project involving financial markets. On a day-to-day basis, this involves meeting with the team for daily stand-ups, working on the codebase and taking part in any training required by my apprenticeship.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I had very little experience with coding prior to beginning my apprenticeship and I have learned so much with this.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I cannot express how much I enjoy the apprenticeship programme at Barclays. I wouldn't recommend anywhere else.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. We have time to attend university lectures, work on apprentice objectives, work with our teams and there is still enough time to socialize.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Barclays provides so many channels of support. There are lots of people you can chat to or there are ways of going about it anonymously.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards qualifications, the training provider gives us an amazing amount of support. They are sensitive to the fact we are working whilst studying and will provide us with whatever help they can, whether it be extra lectures or just a chat.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The materials provided have massively helped in my role. I was able to learn about so much that I was unaware of before starting the job. For example we don't only learn about coding, we learn about the ways of working in a professional software engineering setting plus more.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are so many opportunities for extra-curriculars. Even through the pandemic, there have been a huge number of online networking events and online social activities to take part in.

  • Yes

  • I couldn't think of a better company to work for. The support throughout the apprenticeship is amazing and they really want you to succeed at what you are doing.

  • Be yourself and relax. Barclays want you to succeed!
