Dealing with adhoc people queries (disciplinaries, grievances & sickness) and supporting managers in these. Updating trackers (LTO & Sickness) as well as documents such as the Employee Register Completing HR Inductions & arranging other inductions. Writing interview questions, supporting interviews & sending out offer pack & references. Updating & training staff on the HR database. Writing and sending out regular staff updates.
I joined the business with no HR or business skills, so every skills I have, has been learned or developed for example: Excel / Word (Microsoft Office) Dealing with difficult conversations Organisation skills Delivering training All of my HR understanding (Legislation, different supporting models for organisations, delivering training, benefits & reward just to name a few)
Although I have a heavy workload, I do enjoy my programme, working in a HR Team of myself and my manager (contractor who works 1 full day a week), I am exposed to a large number of learning experiences each and every day. I also feel very supported by my training provider CMT.
My programme has been very well structured from the outset, I am always set pre work to do 2 weeks prior to every workshop, then given 6 weeks to complete the assignment which is based on the learning of the most recent workshop. I feel completely supported and if anything I feel it has been more structured and organised after Covid.
I do receive some support, although working in a very small team, I do feel as though sometimes, it is forgotten that I am an apprentice and expectations are quite high, which I do not mind as I like a challenge. With that being said, if I ever have an issue or need guidance my manager is always there.
I receive plenty of support from my training provider, with the workshops, assignments and regular 1:1s with my tutor, I cannot complain. Each workshop/learning event is linked to an area of my qualification so my learning always feels very linked to the qualifications criteria and specification for my appprenticeship.
I feel that my qualification has given me the solid foundation to build upon with the work that I do within my role. It helps me perform much better as before my learning events, I may shy away from certain issues as I wasn't sure on the legislation relating to it or what is considered best practise.
We have social events at least twice a year, however with Covid-19 they have been halted, we did have regular quizzes last year for spell of time, which were enjoyable. Aside from that, there is not much else that the business offers in terms of extra curricular activities for us.
Yes
Because we have a good set of people in the business that care about one another and want to see us progress forwards. We also invest in people and people can create a career for themselves at this organisation, which I really value. Also, everyone is always willing to help.
Show that they want to learn and progress and are not scared of getting "stuck into" their work. I would also advise people to make sure they ask as many questions as they can think of when they join the business. We are all happy to help and it is the best way to learn.
