  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I operate a chemical plant which involves controlling the plant via a PCS system and through manual processes out on the plant. I take samples and analyse them in a lab to ensure we meet specification and make adjustments to rectify deviations. I also risk assess engineering tasks using the permit to work system

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my problem solving skills by using problem solving techniques to solve issues such as fishbones and then using plan do check act (PDCA) to monitor the actions we take to see if the problem has been resolved. I have developed my communication skills to due to the different type of handovers we have (face to face through permit to work, morning meeting, shift handover)

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training partner offered additional lessons when needed on the run up to exams. We had consistent teachers so they learnt our strengths and weaknesses to help us develop. The NVQ assessor was linked with the training provider therefore we could also receive help with our NVQ through college as well as our employer

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The theory at the training provider helped me perform better at my role because learning chemistry in detail helped me understand more the chemical processors that occurs on site. My training provider also taught me about health and safety which helped me keep myself and others safe, and understand safety procedures such as permit to work
