Apprentice Hairdresser Review

My role in an apprentice / trainee hairdresser. My role in a day to day basis involves washing hair, making drinks for clients, cleaning chairs after each client. Sometimes I apply roots or toners if the senior stylist is busy.

I have learnt lots of new skills since starting my apprenticeship such as how to add volume and body when doing a blo dry and how to do a smudge root

I thoroughly enjoy my programme and cannot wait to be qualified and start excelling in my career! I find the way theory is delivered an excellent method and allows learners to later come back to the webinars as a refresher.

It is very well organised and structured - all theory webinars are sent out on a timetable for the month so you know exactly what’s on and when. And I also know when my TDO is due for a face to face visit and it is planned well in advance. My TDO also responds quickly and always manages to help me out.

I receive a lot of support from my employer, every 3 months we have a review to see areas I have improved on since the last review and to talk about areas of improvement and what to work on for next time. My employer also explains why she is doing certain things when I’m observing.

I receive a lot of support where needed, every time I’ve had a question or needed help I have been provided with a great response/answer that has helped me out and responses are also very quick.

I feel that my qualification enables me to perform better in my role as it helps me to understand why I’m doing what I’m doing - e.g why I’m using certain products for certain hair types or why I’m using specific shampooing techniques for different hair types

I’m thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship and the place I’m working in towards gaining my qualifications. It’s a great environment to be in.

I would advise them to make sure they watch all webinars even if it’s in their own time due to being busy as it really helps your practical work as then you understand why you’re doing specific things.
