I work as a SIAM Analyst (Service integration and management). My role involves service management (using ITIL processes). Currently I look after the problem management function. My day-to-day involves finding problems within the business and setting up discussions for how we can investigate why these issues are occurring and what we can do to try and implement permanent fixes to remove these issues.
Throughout the degree apprenticeship I have learnt so many new skills. Each module comes with a new set of skills to learn. For example I recently learnt about AI and machine learning and was able to create my own machine learning algorithm (which is something I had no clue about at the beginning!) I've also been able to develop my report writing skills as each module tends to require an assignment.
I have really enjoyed the programme, not only have I met lots of new people but I have also learnt about different job roles that are available and how this degree can link in to each of those roles. I've also enjoyed being able to learn whilst working and taking time out of my work day to learn new skills and face different challenges.
Very well organised and structured, especially since the Pandemic. The online webexs take place once a week for 3 hours. Inbetween these times you are expected to log onto canvas and do some individual learning. Its a great structure as you know what to expect from each module. The only flaw I have noticed is that each tutor has a different teaching style (which is to be expected), however this meant I found it more difficult on some modules as there were less exercises to do to try and apply the knowledge learnt.
Massive amounts - The NHSBSA have been amazing for support with my degree. I originally started the degree with DXC, however I changed roles and moved to NHSBSA. The NHS worked hard to transfer over my degree and give me the time I need each week for the individual learning. My managers are really helpful and attend my skills coach meetings to see what they can do to help me further.
Lots - Every few months I have a meeting with my skills coach to check in and make sure I am on the right track, during this he will offer me any support I need. However he is also available at any time I need for an email or phone chat. QA also provide a ACE team who support us massively in helping with skills or issues we may need help with.
I feel like my qualification helps me massively based on the skills I have learnt. For example in some modules I have analysed the companies goals and strategy which has allowed me to work better in my role by being able to incorporate these. However there are some modules I have done, for example AI and machine learning and maths and algorithms which won't make a difference to my role as they are not something I am involved in.
Obviously due to the current COVID climate the amount of activities has decreased as we are no longer able to do things such as volunteering. However there are still many things to take part in. For example we have tech talks, whereby you bring along a brew and learn about different elements of the business. We also have people who do online teams yoga sessions.
Yes
I would recommend QA & the NHSBSA to a friend as both have helped me massively over the past 3 years to develop myself and move up in my roles. When I originally started at the NHSBSA I was on a 12 month role, however with the skills I learnt from my apprenticeship I was able to secure a permanent role.
Ask around for help. Everyone in both QA & the NHSBSA are happy to help if you have any queries and there is alot of knowledge held by the people who work here. This knowledge can help massively in developing assignments and understandings to achieve better grades. I would also advise to make sure to block out time to do the apprenticeship work as sometimes work can be hectic!
