  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role entailed working to cleanse numerous datasets, so that it was ready for transformation via the SAS platform. I had to make sure that all SAS scripts were run and that if issues were to occur, code was produced to attempt the run again. Power BI was used to create visuals for the client as well, proving them with an interactive dashboard of their datasets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst starting at this company, I have really improved my code writing skills. I am able to use softwares such as SAS, SharePoint and Power BI more efficiently. Plus, my soft skills have in fact become a lot better. I would hope that over the next few years, I would become established in my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the Apprenticeship programme, I learnt so much and got to meet great teachers and pupils. I was given ten weeks to complete each module and everyone was easily accessible if I had any questions. I would highly recommend QA for anyone starting off their Apprenticeship. They taught be a lot, through an enjoyable manner.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was perfectly structured. All students had ten weeks to complete their modules. The exam dates and assignment deadlines were always set for the same date, so no confusion was caused. If the course was virtual, you can expect the classes to be weekly, whereas, if they were in person, they would take place four times throughout the two week window.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was aware of what the apprenticeship entailed, therefore I I in fact recieve support throughout the process. They made sure to align my work with the Apprenticeship criteria, this made it easy to complete my Level 5 and Level 6 dissertation. I was able to tick off all the relevant criteria without any issues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider was brilliant, we are assigned a Skills Coach, who is accessible every work day. They organise meetings with the organisation so that your business are aware of what they must do in order to support you. They make sure that you're comfortable on all your courses and all in all the environment is very relaxed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am very happy with my qualification, it shows everyone that I am aware of my field and that I have knowledge to execute the job properly. It also shows that I am qualified as the qualification is perfectly aligned to what I do every day. I am happy with the certificates.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The organisation is very flexible in this sense, they make sure that employees are able to create groups in whatever they would like. There are numerous professional network events that take place. For example in 2019 I was fortunate to accompany the team to France for a Data conference. This was a great experience.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sopra Steria to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The organisation has been a brilliant stepping stone into the world of Computing, they have really tried to help wherever possible. I have also been fortunate to work alongside other Apprentices. So I have been able to learn tricks and tips along the way. I would recommend this company due to their open attitude to new comers who start off with little knowledge and that are ready to grow.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sopra Steria?
  • I would start of by saying, this company loves to see examples of what you have done in IT. This shows them that you have really tried and that this is something the company could benefit from. I would also say, you as an individual must be a friendly person and show you're happy to take on challenges.
