Supporting the Sales-Trading desk on various procedures and analysis. I help the desk with client enablements, operational/settlement issues as well as providing day to day / monthly / ad-hoc data analysis on a whole host of different areas.
Data Analysis / Coding Skills - There's so much data available to us, that being able to code was something I realised to be extremely valuable. I've completed courses and also learnt a huge amount on the job; being able produce something meaningful from those skills is massively rewarding.
It's a real pleasure to work with the employer, and be a part of the programme. The programme is well supported internally, and the University makes studying as enjoyable and engaging as possible. The programme is very rewarding, in terms of being challenged.
You undergo an induction with the bank, and university, and then receive constant support throughout the programme. You have a dedicated study day, which it is best to stick to, and meet quarterly with University mentors to check in on progression.
Line Managers are very supportive, and check in frequently to see your progress. We meet with employer mentors at least quarterly, and are often reminded of the support channels we can leverage if we need to.
Support is always available, and tutors/mentors try to keep apprentices in-line with targets. They enjoy supporting us, and encourage us to think individually to solve problems. Generally pretty good.
It is somewhat useful, it helps to provide to context to what you're are doing. There are some parts which I haven't applied or used, but are still very useful to know.
Networking events are often provided, which bring apprentices together and also access to more senior members. Volunteering opportunities are frequent, and are a great way to network too. There is an in-house gym, and lots of people engage in sports activities.
Yes
A really collaborative place to work, with truly great people (something which to me is massively important.) There is opportunity to grow and complete your own analysis, create ideas and drive projects. It's a well positioned firm, with good connections, and a great junior talent pool.
Consider why you want to work specifically at UBS ... what about the bank attracts you / makes it a desirable place to work. Do some research around a market which interests you (commodities, is there an interesting equity you read about in the FT)
