My daily role is a public transport bus driver. My day starts by signing in at the start of my duty what ever time that may be. I then pick up my duty card for the day which contains all the information about my days work, which services I will be operating times I need to be at locations extra.I then inspect my bus for use carrying out a first use check document, sign on my vehicle ticket and location machine then move the vehicle out of the depot to begin my days work of safely and comfortably transporting the general public.
Yes I have qualified as a PCV driver registered by the DVLA. I also carry a DQC card which takes a minimum of thirty five hours classroom work to obtain and must be renewed every five years. So it is an on going system of refreshing your knowledge in passenger transport and the responsibilities and objectives that go along side.
To date I have really enjoyed my learning experience and enjoy my active professional role even more so. My instructors have been of an excellent standard and always been very supportive and understanding through my learning process. My apprentice mentor has always made himself available anytime I have had a need to talk through anything.
From day one the programme has been first class. From our introduction day with the company right through to present day I have always felt a sense of belonging and that the company are there to teach the correct procedures in all aspects of passenger transport, putting care and safety of the passenger at the heart of everything we learn.
I would find it very difficult to criticize Stagecoach in terms of support not given. From day one they have made it clear they have an open door policy when it comes to support and if you require any. I know from first hand this is the case as recently I had a bereavement in my family and the understanding and support was as much as I could have asked for.
Mr Mark Holden of Realise has been great. The company has been so understanding during this last very strange year and speaking from someone who was virtually computer illiterate when joining the company they have talked me through all I have asked to know, zoom did mean zoom to me now I can actually participate in one of those meetings
I feel that the two subjects role along together well. You are constantly gaining knowledge from your training provider sometimes on subjects that you may have thought were slightly irrelevant but then when you are out on the actual job it is easy to see that the information gained is often relevant and useful.
There are such events that take place though I must admit that finding the time to participate is often difficult when we all tend to work quite a lot of hours and often on different shift patterns. It is nice to know such events are available and I have took part once in a round of golf set up by a company society.
Yes
They are a good company to work for, the pay is fair though sometimes the unpaid breaks can be a bit of a bind as you are still in uniform. They seem to be understanding to individual needs and are always willing to try and help you out if you have special requests.I would say they are a very professional organization.
I would say make sure that you are committed to being flexible as possible especially when you first start as the shifts and hours can be a bit up and down generally more up than down. Also learn your highway code well as you will be tested thoroughly on your general knowledge of the roads.
