My role as a Project Management Apprentice has me working within various placements within the Project Management function. Currently, I am working in my exit placement as part of the change management team. This involves managing the change process on my project and ensuring that every change gets properly actioned.
I have learned a vast array of knowledge and skills in both a project management sense and also from a personal sense. I have greatly improved my communication skills through liasing daily with project stakeholders and I have greatly improved my skills in microsoft excel as I manage change using this application.
I enjoy my job a great deal due to the variety of work I get to do on a daily basis. It is a good personal motivation to be able to come in every day and learn new skills and gain knowledge to aid me in the progression of my career.
It is very well organised. From the day I started at my company I was told where I would be going for each placement and how long each placement would last. On top of this, the learning plans outlined for each objective I work towards provide excellent clarification on how I can achieve them.
Throughout my apprenticeship, I have had various points of contact to engage with when I have needed support. This could be in the form of my peers, my line manager or the team I am in. They are always happy to assist with any queries I have when doing my job or completing my qualification.
Throughout the time it has taken me to complete my qualification, I have received fair support from the training provider (QA). This showed when I managed to gain my qualification. However, at times the communication could be patchy and not as clear as it should be, which was acted upon and rectified.
I believe my qualification has given my the confidence to engage with stakeholders more experienced than me and speak with confidence and belief in what message I am getting across. I also feel my knowledge levels gained from the qualification have made my job easier due to the expertise I am able to apply.
Yes. Within my job, there is plenty of opportunity to partake in extra-curricular activities. For example, you could sign up to be a STEM ambassador and travel to affiliated schools and businesses to deliver talks and give knowledge on the job you are doing. Also, doing this apprenticeship means you go on a week long outward bound course.
Yes
I couldn't have asked for a better experience in an apprenticeship. The knowledge and skills you gain are priceless for the career you could have in the future. The company makes you and your work feel valued and appreciated, which really serves as a great motivator to come in every day and give 100%.
Give as much detail as possible when filling out any application forms. You want to stand out to those reviewing them and selecting applicants. This will give you the best chance of getting to a real life interview/assessment day. Make sure when going to an event like this you gain knowledge of the company going into it as they may ask you questions about it.
