My role within the branch includes daily keeping of stock and ensuring the shop and yard looks presentable for the customers daily. I am also required to take phone calls and serve on the counter and yard with customers everyday. We have a delivery every other day from our stores which is where a lot of our stock is kept and I am responsible for making sure it is all here and kept.
I have received counterbalance truck training whilst working here so I am now qualified to drive the truck on the yard. I have also learnt a lot of skills when it comes to selling and the best ways to secure orders and ensure profit is being made.
I really enjoy the apprenticeship programme that I am completing and feel like there is always chance for me to move up in the business and opportunities to grow.
My programme is very structured and each module corresponds to each other in terms of the tasks that I have to complete. The structure covers all areas of the business and even things which are not in my branch. This gives me the opportunity to still learn in case I want to progress or take another job opportunity in another branch in the future.
I receive a lot of support if I am struggling with work or any other day to day tasks that are required to be in branch then I always have another colleague or have communicated with people in other branches to get this done. In terms of my apprenticeship I have a coach and other people on my programme to be able to talk to about the work.
My training provider is able to give me help when I need it in regards to the apprenticeship qualification. One of the main ways she is able to do this is by holding meetings regularly and getting in contact with me if I am struggling with work to explain and ensure I know what to do to carry on.
I have learnt a lot from my apprenticeship so far as I have completed 8 out of the 12 months. I feel that the majority of what I am studying and learning is helping me to be able to work better in branch and use the information. I feel that completing this apprenticeship has really improved my in store knowledge and I have been able to help a lot of people and grow from this both in the shop and yard.

It is a very friendly work environment and I get on very well with the other staff members, despite being the only girl working in our branch. It is a comfortable place to work and I feel I have a very good chance at progressing up in the business.
Do your research before coming to the job as there is a lot more involved than what first meets the eye.
