I completed a four day work experience programme in August 2021 for school students. The placement allowed me to increase my knowledge about the legal profession and confirmed that I wanted to study law at university. We were given talks from solicitors, outside speakers and were allocated supervisors to speak to. We also completed tasks and group exercises.
I learnt more about the legal profession and what studying law at university would look like. I learnt more about applying for jobs and tips for applications and interviews. I was able to develop my communication skills as I interacted with the other participants in group sessions. I was able to develop professionally.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I feel that the experience allowed me to develop my knowledge of Pinsent Masons and the legal profession. I would recommend the experience to other school students who wish to pursue a legal career. The experience exceeded my expectations.
The experience was very well organised. The forage platform was easy to use and well structured. Microsoft Teams was easy to use and I enjoyed using this platform. If we needed support or help it was easy to access this. The structure of the programme was well thought out and made me feel at ease.
I learnt a lot about the company and the process of applying for a job or placement in the future. The company seems inclusive and it is obvious that they are making an effort to make everybody feels valued. I enjoying learning about the different groups set up within the firm which employees can join.
I am confident that studying law at university is right for me. The sessions with the supervisors confirmed this as we got to hear about their experiences and tips for applying and studying law. I feel confident that I would enjoy working in a large law firm in the future, such as Pinsent Masons.
No. This was a school student work experience programme which was held virtually. We were not paid or reimbursed for the experience. Although, we learnt that if we apply to the vacation scheme we are paid when we complete that programme. The programme was completed from home and therefore we could not be reimbursed for anythinh.
Yes, we met other employees in different sessions as a large group but we could also meet two employees in a small group. There was the option to attend a networking lunch with the other students, although this was optional. We had the option of writing messages to the whole group on the forage platform.
Yes
The experience was very well organised and the staff and everybody who spoke to us seemed very engaged and willing to help us. The programme was very insightful and allowed me to develop my legal knowledge. The experience was fantastic and I learnt many new things which I didn't know before.
The application process is quite long as the questions require long answers. The application took me a few hours to complete and I completed it over the course of a few weeks. It can be difficult reducing the length of your answer at times to fit into the character limit.
