We attended various tasks and workshops. There were many guest speakers and workers at the company. Every day was varied and we also were able to participate in group discussions. There was a competition running, as well as other legal tasks, which were very interesting. The presentations ran every day as well!
I learnt a lot about the routes into law, as well as how to be successful in your legal career. I did not gain any qualifications, but we were able to develop our presentation and communication skills. There was a lot to learn about CV and applications and how to be the best candidate.
I personally enjoyed my work experience to a large experience. It met my expectations fully and I was able to develop so many skills. The small group sessions were my favourite, followed by the tasks. The tasks allowed us to delve into the law and the team were so helpful and friendly.
By using the platform Forage, this work experience was one of the most organised events that I have ever participated in. Not only were the days well structured, but it was extremely helpful to access and get on to the calls and sessions. Support was also very efficient and helpful.
Due to the fact that various partners, solicitors and trainees were in attendance, we were able to understand how the company works. I could see myself fitting in due to how friendly and supportive the Pinsent Masons people are. Even though we weren't in the office, it is clear that the values and cultures are great.
Seeing as I already knew I was interested in a legal career, this work experience successfully solidified my strong passion for a career in law. It also confirmed that I would like to go down the solicitor route and hearing from employees helped me to gain a real feel for the sector.
This was a virtual work experience, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and government restrictions at the time of application, as a result of uncertainty. Therefore, travel costs, meal costs, social costs were not reimbursed. However, if it were to be in person, I assume that travel costs would be reimbursed.
On the final day, there was a networking lunch, within which Linkedin groups and various other group chats were created. We also participated in different small group activities and tasks. It would have been nicer if there were more opportunities to network with fellow students during the course of the week.
Yes
Pinsent Masons is such an inviting and welcoming firm. Not only are the people so wonderful and friendly, but their service lines and values are inspiring. It seems like such a great place to start and develop your legal career and I would definitely recommend it to anyone I know!
The application process was rather long. There were 600 applicants and less than 200 people were successful. My biggest piece of advice would be to put forward your best application; they want proactive and well-rounded people, with interests other than law, but who seem like intellectual candidates. Be yourself in the worded questions!
