  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am given tasks/objectives that i need to complete in store by a set date, I let my management know what i am expected to learn and i am given the jobs, these range from serving on tills, loading delivery vans, chasing up/banking and occasionally helping out in our design centre.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through my apprenticeship I've picked up many skills that can be used in different situations, I grew my confidence in public speaking as i need to speak to many different colleagues and customers everyday. I've gradually gained knowledge on D.I.Y. and trading as i work in a D.I.Y. store.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme i am on is one of the best learning experiences I've ever done, Its great because all of it is explained to us on group calls and we need to use our knowledge from the calls in store, we need to write how these skills helped us and how we can use them in the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme i am on is structured very well especially for a last minute programme, everything we need during the programme is available for free on our work email, we can choose whether we want to work on paper or online on a one-drive document, our final exam is also online but we will have invigilators.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer helps me with maintaining good quality work and keeping up with the deadlines and new work. I am given time in store to complete my written work when available. All of my manager appreciate the amount of work i do and need to do in order to finish the programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive consistent support from my trainer, i receive daily emails to check up on how i'm doing with my work and if i ever need help, if i take a while to respond to the email my unmarked work will be updated so when i'm free i can go through my work and check for mistakes.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification will help me progress into management as my qualification will prove how i can be trusted to tasks willingly without questioning it and how i can confidently deal with different people in social situation where people may need to be calmed down and dealt with correctly which is important =.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I went onto a group call with my tutor and other people in my apprentice group and spoke with a high selling design consultant within our company, we were taught the best ways to interact with a customer and how to push sales without sounding aggressive and like a salesman.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend it as its a great opportunity that can bring you so far in the company and even take your skills over to other companies, its an effective way to learn skills in team leadership and keeping standards high.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wickes?
  • I would advice that all work is kept up with, it is a personal responsibility to get the work done and if your struggling you can ask either a manager or your trainer for any extra support, whether that's with the written work or the physical work, he help is there.
