I was involved in the audit of a global client. The team was huge but it was then sub divided into smaller teams. My team was specifically involved in auditing the EMEA entities owned by my client. I was apart of the audit testing relating to cash, bad debt, accounts receivables and reserves.
I learnt key communication skills and how to effectively develop relationships with the client. Additionally, I learnt the importance of time management in terms of being able to efficiently prioritise items of work which are more pressing. Lastly, I learnt how to really become independent and take pride in my work.
I enjoyed most of my work experience as I was trusted with really important work and was not just given the simple boring things such as copying and pasting. Additionally, I was always free to ask for help from my seniors who never once failed to help. The only issue I encountered was the pressure of having to work overtime however I managed to cope in the end.
The work experience is very well organised. We get a week of training at the start to really set the foundations. Also during the placement we have catch ups with our career coaches and programme managers who check up on how we are doing. There is also a completion process to ensure we get sufficient feedback at the end.
I learnt a lot about the company's culture as I was allowed to gain first hand experience of the working life. There are also various social aspects to the company which makes it a lot more easier to network. We are also frequently reminded of the core ethics of the company.
This work experience has helped me a lot in deciding my future career path. This is because we are allowed the freedom to really be independent and given the chance to take ownership of our work. Therefore it's allowed me to get a real insight into how it is working in audit at PwC.
Yes we were paid for our work experience. There was a fairly reasonable salary given to us and we were also paid for our overtime. Additionally, the company provide you with accommodation should you require it. If you do not need such accommodation then they give you an additional pay instead.
Yes as mentioned earlier there were a range of social events and activities. Everyone is placed into an industry social group and even within that it is split into industry families. Additionally, there are even socials which are planned within the team which make it really easy to network and meet new employees
Yes
The firm has a lot to offer in terms of learning and getting exposure to different industries through working with the clients. Also, the clients are often huge companies which makes it really interesting and exciting to be a part of. Furthermore there are great ethics and principles in place here.
I would recommend really researching about PwC and what they offer to you just as much as what you can offer them. This will help you stand out in interviews. Also in group assessment days make sure you are confident and make an impact and stand out from the rest.
