As this was my first placement with PwC as part of this course my daily tasks ranged from more admin based tasks to individual problem solving activities. I frequently interacted with my teams/managers and occasionally with the client. I worked on multiple teams/projects/audits.
I have learnt multiple new skills - eg. training on new software (such as Alteryx) and developing my skills further on other applications (such as Excel). I also became much more familiar with PwCs own systems. Moreover, I completed multiple training courses and have become more confident asking questions.
Once I had got through the first couple weeks (wherein it could be quite overwhelming learning so much) and had got the hang of how the workplace functioned, I really enjoyed my first placement. PwC set me up in accommodation nearby, I made multiple new friends, the company culture was great and overall exceeded my expectations.
I am a big supporter of this kind of programme structure, especially for someone trying to become a chartered accountant. By letting us complete 3 months on placement and then the rest of the year at University, I feel that I can really focus on either work or exams, and never have to worry too much about both at the same time.
PwC were very supportive throughout my placement - I know this as they were very understanding when I came down ill for a week in october and had to take 5 days off.
University of Nottingham seems to have systems of support in place but because of COVID last year I never really got to take full advantage of them.
I could clearly see how some of the exams and topics I had learned at Uni applied on placement.
Yes. PwC, much like University, offer countless social groups, including most sports. I tried to join their 5-a-side football league but unfortunately the pitches were being resurfaced.
Yes
For anyone looking to become a chartered accountant, PwC offer multiple supportive programmes for becoming qualified. Whether you want to go straight from school, work with them through Uni, or join as a graduate, they can accommodate anyone. I have nothing negative to say about my experience - if anything I wouldn't have minded carrying on placement rather than go back to University. However, getting the best of both worlds is great.
Make sure this is something you are actually interested in - whilst the experience is positive, you have to be motivated and proactive with your studies and placement.
