  • My role at DWP involves working with different customers from various levels of life with equal opportunity irrespective of age, sex, culture, education etc. My role involves providing tailored support to these customers in order to get them to move into paid work, more paid work or better work in the community.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt new skills since I joined the department. The role is a customer facing one which involves relating with people, providing the best of services and also providing excellent customer services, reviewing customer’s feedback in order to improve on the services. I have learnt new skills to do a great job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the program as it focuses on my current skills and the lapses and what needs to be improved on. It gives the opportunity to do my own research and look for ways to improve myself and my team in order to be able to provide the best services for the customers.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well structured and organised as there is time given to attend classes and give back feedback to the trainer. There is a regular two-way communication between the trainer and my question and opportunity to contribute and share my own opinion. There is a lot of project work involved to build one’s knowledge as well.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer as this at first is a learning opportunity and a way for me to develop better customer service knowledge. There is time off and a day dedicated for me to attend sessions, do project work and ask questions since I started the program.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training providers have put a lot of resources in place and made the learning process easy to access and use. There is a platform to ask questions and report issues appropriately. The learning system and platform has made in a way that makes understanding and manouvering a lot easier.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is a great deal as it is a career development targeted at improving skills, knowledge and understanding in order to be able to meet the goals of the organisation and provide the best services for the customers. The qualification has opened my eyes to what I can do to perform better in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot of extra-curricular activities to get involved with at DWP which also aids professional networking and diversity in the department. There is team build and activities that brings team members together ensuring everyone gets involved and contributes to the growth and success of the team and department as much as possible.

So it is a privilege to work for such an organisation as DWP


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Work and Pensions?
  • It is a privilege to work for an organisation as DWP as there are so many benefits received in the organisation. There is a lot of progression and development and the department encourages its staff to apply for different roles and not hold back. They provide enough resources to help and support the growth of staff members.
