Operations manager for a internet retailer specializing in furniture sales. responsible for management coaching and development of 3 supervisors and across the Receiving, QC and Returns departments. Daily tasks include agreeing shift targets based on actual volume and manning, redeploying heads dependent on changes through the shift, looking ahead and planning training needs, space utilization, capacity, MHE requirements, recruitment plans and quality improvements across a 6week to 6 month horizon.
Only just started the apprenticeship course but already have picked up some tips and tricks that have improved by day to day work. Start topic is around workload planning and after shadowing some other managers and discussing with mentors and senior management I have some great ideas that I can implement into my working life.
the apprenticeship programme is really great, the tutor provided by the training company is real world experienced and can bring the topics and subjects to life. The learning is at your own pace and at a level you are comfortable with, never rushed and support is available all the time.
The programme is really well organized and structured. we have been given an overview of the subjects covered across the whole course, each split into separate modules that weave together. Contact time with the tutor is preplanned and can be moved to suit business / personal reasons and the portal keeps everything in one place.
I have received loads of support from my employer. the training team especially have been a great source of help and advice, from candid discussions before signing up about what to expect and what level of effort would be required to researching and sourcing online training material to support us.
The training provider has given us access to a training portal that keeps all relevant workbooks and communications in one place. We get physical time with a tutor who is very experienced and great at getting across the required learning. Also support is available remotely via email or call whenever you need it.
I haven't passed the qualification yet but so far the learnings I'm getting both from the course and through mentoring and shadowing other managers have all helped me to perform better in my role. Once the course if completed and I hopefully gain the qualification I can see me being better experienced and more confident as a result.
We have a lively outside work culture where i work where managers are encouraged to organise social time and get togethers for their teams to enable better understanding and respect for each other. Covid has put a number of activities on hold but the culture is still one of enjoying each others company outside of the day job.
Yes
A great company to work for, they show respect for each person who works here no matter the grade. This respect manifests itself in multiple ways from realistic work targets, a strong work/life balance ethic that includes minimal contact outside of working hours, a 4on4off work rota to further compliment this, extra sick pay in case on isolation requirement from covid,
Emphasise your experience at managing change, it is a company that never stands still and is always looking at how to improve and go further to deliver relentless customer focus. there is no one type of worker here as the experience from all is valued and respected so think about what value you can bring rather than trying to fit into someone else's idea of the role
