On a day to day basis I am in the office doing different stuff every day. I am completing my second placement which is incredibly different to my first. No two days are the same. I go to college once a week where I am completing my HND. This will continue for another year.
I have developed my people skills and I am gaining confidence in speaking in front of others. I have also gained the skill of writing a neat and concise technical report which is easy to read and understand. I have also gained more practical knowledge and I understand how to use computer software more.
I have enjoyed my program throughouly so far. There had been a few difficulties to do with covid but all in all Babcock have sorted out the issues and made it easier and safer to come into work. I have enjoyed moving away from home and getting to meet more people.
The programme for the apprenticeship, has had a few moments where the plan has been relayed to the apprentices at the last moment. This has meant if we have made arrangements to get to one place and the plan has been changed then it has made it difficult to get there. However, the majority of the time it has been well structured.
I have received a lot of support from certain sectors in the company. For example, my apprenticeship development manager has been able to find out information for me or give me the schedule in advanced to ensure I could plan when I could go home. They also support me with changing the colour of paperwork and powerpoints so I am able to read them.
I receive a lot of help from my training provider. They always make sure the work they are giving us are in a different colour for me to read. They also provide a lot of help in college by giving us all the powerpoints they go through in class to ensure we can refer to them later on.
I feel that the qualification i am receiving will help me in my role because they are focused on some of the sectors I can go into. For example the CAD units will help develop my knowledge and skills for if I want to go into the drawing office in the yard.
There are sports teams in the yard who play games together outside of the yard. There are also opportunites to go to schools to socially network the apprenticeship to help motivate younger people to want to come into the yard. There are also work meals that happen at certain times in the year such as christmas.
Yes
I would recommend the Babcock apprenticeship to a friend because it is a very well respected apprenticeship across the UK. They provide a very competitive salary and amazing qualifications. Depending the sector you go into in the yard will determine the level of training you can get. Babcock also wants to make sure the workers are happy an will try their hardest to make that happen
When applying to Babcock I would recommend researching the company thoroughly to ensure you can provide the best answers to the questions you'll be asked about in the interview. I did not have to complete the team building activity however, I would recommend putting aside any issues you may have with anyone in the team and communicating thoroughly.
