  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my day to day activities when working, however I feel that the day I spend at college could be a lot more productive considering the hours we are there for.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the programme is well structured within the fact that we know what qualifications we are currently studying and can gain any support we need in order to complete them. I do feel that the placement side of our programme could improve so that the sectors of work we go to can actually be prepared to oversee apprentices before we arrive.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer in terms of update on progress on college work. I also have constant communication with my line mangers who can carry out weekly or monthly progress reports of how I am working within the team. This can help me to understand what I am doing well as well as what I can do to improve.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel that the college is really helpful in the fact that if I ask for any assistance with work they are very keen to engage. They are also very flexible in terms of how my course is submitted which is a positive considering for the rest of the week we are working. I do however feel that for the amount of time we spend at college, we could be covering a lot more knowledge.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the training we get is very helpful in the fact that we learn about maintenance and different system we may come across at work. However I do feel that the course could be made more adaptable to our job role within the office. this would have given us a much easier introduction to the business when we arrived at our first placement.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many different opportunities to gain extra skills which are offered by the company. However I would say that having strict rules on attending college from 8.30-8 on a Tuesday can prevent a lot of people from joining sports activities outside of the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Babcock to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that the company provides good training which you can make you own depending on how hard you are willing to work. The company has a great impact on your future CV and can present you with a vast range of different working opuntias once you are fully qualified.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • I would say that you must definitely consider your knowledge to health and safety prior to joining as this is a massive part of the company. I would also say that as long as you are hard working and willing to seek advice from your lecturers and line managers you can essentially take your career as far as you want too.
