My role initially involved being based on Main reception, being the first port of call for all enquiries and visitors. I answered calls, emails directed to the office as well as all other administrative tasks where required.
My administrative skills have developed vastly during the course of my apprenticeship, with my experience in all Microsoft office packages developing vastly, as well as my knowledge of the education system.
I enjoyed the new skills that I learnt, however I had issues with my apprenticeship provider themselves and feel like they failed me towards the end where by situations that arose were not addressed appropriately, nor do I feel like the complaints made to them at the end of my course were neither valued or true my acknowledged.
The programme itself was well structured, however how well structured comes down to your allocated tutor. I was lucky enough to be pair with a tutor initially who was fantastic and really followed the recommended structure and task in place. However later down the line I was reallocated a new tutor twice on the basis of the first one leaving, and had it not been for all the work I had put it before that point, I do not believe I would have had the same experience or achieved the grade that I did.
No time was specifically allocated to apprenticeship tasks and instead worked outside of my working hours to complete most of the tasks.
As mentioned previously, my intial tutor was fantastic but those after truly did not care about me as a learner and did not make my experience feel worthwhile. I placed a formal complaint, but even that I had to chase for a response over a matter of months and was still not satisfied.
I believe the skills learnt have been valuable in me developing in my role, however I am unsure if the work set made any difference to the experiences I was having on the job. I probably would have learnt the same if I had not been following the course and just learning on the job.
Due to covid there were limited opportunities in this area. I started two weeks before the initial lock down came into place!
Yes
I would recommend it as a place of work and a fantastic team to be part of. It’s hard, fast placed but an extremely varied place to work where the days fly by! Lots to learn, and has really been a valued experience with everything I have achieved whilst working there
Be sure that you are committed to the course before you start- be mindful that you have to fit in a demanding course whilst dealing with the everyday demands of the work environment. Although tough at times, it was worth it in the end, however I do not think highly of LMP as a provider.
