My role is to maintain and repair if required HGV's. Report any defects found and record the repairs on DAF check to keep on our files. The aim is to provide the best ability i can to any job i am doing, to keep customers happy. This is so we maintain good quality customer service for our customers that we see weekly.
I started the role not knowing anything about the trade, now i can do numerous jobs on my own without the help of others to a high standard. I have also developed my customer skills as this is part of my role to be involved with customers. I have started working on my own car also, which i would never of thought of doing before i started.
When i go to work every day, i look forward to going in to find out what job i am tasked with. I am friendly with all work colleagues and have made some good friends, which i speak too outside of work. To the point where we are participating in outside sport.
The organisation of the programme is good. I have to go to work for a certain amount of weeks before i go to college to learn different blocks. There is just the right time inbetween each block as this gives me enough time to practice what i have learnt at college. The visits from skillnet is also spot on as this gives me chance to collect job card data for evidence.
The support i get from work is great, if i ever get stuck with any tasks i can easily go to my superior and ask for help knowing i will get it. There is always someone with the correct knowledge with what i am stuck with. If i have any problems at home i can go to my manager and it will get sorted.
The support i recieve from my training provider is good. I am always in contact with my skillnet coach about what my nexts steps are and what targets i need to be achieving. If i collect any job card evidence i can email it straight to my skills coach so i know it is ticked off my lists to do.
It helps me perform better as i have a 'to do'list with all the tasks i need to achieve my qualifications, knowing if i dont do them i wont get my papers. This makes me want to knuckle down and complete all tasks set, the tasks are set throughtout all sections from servicing, suspension, electrical etc. So i know i have to perform in each section.
No directly through work but a few of the technicians had a 5 a side team going which is good for teams bonding etc, it also gives you something to talk about it work other than work which sometimes it is needed. It is also funny to watch the manager trip over hahaha!

From knowing nothing about the trade to being able to carrying out servicing, repairs and engine overhauls i would recommend motus commercials to anyone doing an apprenticeship. The provide brilliant facilities and training courses needed to be on top of your career. I have also witnessed apprentices go on to be managers which excites me as i could step up one day in the future.
Knowing a little bit about the trade helps but not essential as they are willing to provide excellent traning and facilities. You need to be willing to learn and then you will see the rewards, just be prepared for the cold morning starts as it does get a little chilly on the early mornings.
