  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to work during the night to look after young people and children during their respite stay, which can range from one night to five nights. I assist with medication and personal care as well as washing their clothes and preparing food for their school day and such.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt that all children are unique and have their own interesting ways of living life. I've learnt a lot about myself and how I can help them to learn and grow and help the young people and children prepare for adult life and life after their stays.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is really enjoyable, its been a pleasure to be on the programme, the amount of knowledge I've learnt has been immeasurable and has helped me be a better worker. I've considered taking the next level which would be a level five upon completion of current course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation is second to none it is very easy to navigate between the modules and the information that comes with it is very well layed out and very easy to read and understand. The structure is amazing and I can't say I've experienced anything like this before

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive of my course, they have written testimonials for me when I've asked them to and when I've spoken to them they have given me feedback and praise on my progress. My manager keeps in constant contact with my assessor who is very helpfuly

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They provide me so much support I'm very grateful for all the time and support they give to me each month when we have a discussion about my progress. They are very happy with my continual progress as I've been ahead of my deadlines during my nvq course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has been most valuable to me and my continual progression in my current job role. It has helped me be knowledgable and develop new skills and continue to improve the skills I already had. As it's my belief especially in care as things always change it's good to keep training

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not as such however there may activities outside of work which the young people or children may be involved with, with their school or perhaps a performance club which we may get an invitation to. This can happen from time to time which is good way to support the children.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Action for Children to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are brilliant my assessor is so amazing and I'm very happy with her and the help which she provides to me on a monthly basis. She is very informative on the subjects we discuss and it gives me confidence to complete my work and I have enjoyed having her as my assessor


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Action for Children?
  • The application process was very smooth and the people involved were very friendly I would say to take on board what they say as their advice and guidance is really helpful and second to none. The way they have helped me before and during the course has been very comforting
