  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Job role can change daily and weekly depending on the task that is assigned to me. Each task will have me work with a team of qualified designers and engineers across the company to ensure that deadlines are met and quality standards are upheld. My task can range from going on board different vessels and completing different tasks to working in the office on different drawing packs or modelling tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within my apprenticeship i have been able to improve my team working ability and drastically excel in my communication skills and problem solving abilities. As the my job role is so diverse i have been able work on my time management skills as a result of task deadlines and goals.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As a result of how diverse the role is I very much enjoy what I do and how the program is run. The different tasks that are taken on mean that I am not working on the same task all the time which allows me to constantly challenge my problem solving ability. This also means that within the role I am able to work with a wide range of professionals and take their experience and knowledge and incorporate it in my work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the whole apprenticeship program is very well organised. I have a very clear understanding of what is required of me and what i should expect. The organisation of my placement and working life also shares the same quality as i am well informed on each task and know exactly what i should do and where i can get the information on any problems I should encounter.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Within the apprenticeship I receive as much support as i require. This means that i am able to contact the correct people when and if i need throughout my apprenticeship. As apprentices we are informed on all contacts we may require and the contact information on how to correctly do this. This continues past our apprenticeship and we are offered a wide range of support from our employer on a wide range of subject.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A massive amount of support is given by our training provider. This include support sessions on topics we may bring up and out of hours support via email should we have any concerns when completing assignments. Additional support from this is also offered from the training provider and is looked at on a one to one basis to better suit an individuals requirements

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification requires me to think of all aspects of a problem and allows me to fully utilise the software used both for the qualification and within my rob role. As a result i have a wider range of tools and the knowledge and experience behind me to be able to confidently complete my tasks.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a wide range of actives to get involved in which are offered to all. Unfortunate due to the recent pandemic some activates were suspended for safety however these are being re-introduced and are always changing to suit everyone's needs. Weekly updates are given to all employees to inform them of any changes or additions to new and upcoming events.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • You really wont find another place like it. The Massive range of opportunities offered are like no other and the type of work reflects this. You are able to work on equipment not many other people get to and work with some of the most experienced professionals and to be able to work as one big team is incredibly rewarding.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • Be open to new challenges and experiences, all of it is a learning opportunity. Don't be afraid to fall back on the support of others, we are all here to help each other. In that be willing to help others when needed. Be confident in your work and don't take advise as criticism we are all here to help each other be the absolute best and produce the highest quality of work.
