  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a team leader so my job is too lead the team when the store managers are not there. But I also do the same as the other colleagues by putting out stock and making sure the shop is nice and tidy. Another thing I have to do is cash up at the end of the night if I am in charge on the night.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to lead a team and how to make the team work together and be more productive together. I have also learnt how to manage my time better so I can be more productive and more efficient meaning I can get more done and help the store.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy this programme quite a lot because I am developing more as a person after every session with more knowledge of what needs to be done. Also I enjoy it because I learn new things every single time as my trainer gives me a better explanation if I am unsure of the topic.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is very well organised as your tutor is always prepared on what work you are going to be set to be done and also the meeting for the work that you have just done. The only thing I think could be better about the structure of it is setting different colleagues at different places ad everyone works at different speeds.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of help and support from my training provider by I can get in contact with her pretty much anytime if I need help or just to ask questions about the work that has been set for us to complete. Also when we have our meetings she is very supportive and helps when explaining things in more detail.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • To be honest it doesn’t really help me at the minute as the work I have done already I already know most of it but for the rest of the topics I may not know so then it will start to benefit me. Also some of the topics don’t relate towards iceland stores.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • So at our work place we get a social fund and we get money into by how well we perform in store etc winning incentives and things. Then when we have enough money for the full team to do something we can arrange it. Like we just had our Christmas night out and that was good fun.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend iceland to a friend or friends because there is lots of benefits for working with them. For example these apprenticeships that we get to go on also the discount card that you receive when working here. But also they are very fair with bonuses and pay rises etc.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • I would say just be yourself in your interview but at the same time be selling yourself to them. It is a very hardworking environment and you need to work at pace so that’s what I would be telling them. Also I would be telling them about the benefits of joining them and is that might entice them in to working harder before applying.
