My job role is night senior carer, I assist the service users with personal personal care, medication, food and hydration, and follow their care plan to provide person centered care based on their individual need. I also manage a team of carers, support the night care manager and run the shift when needed.
I have deleveloped my existing skills, I've been working in the care industry for over 8 years and by completing a level 3 diploma it gave me a qualification that shows my knowledge and experience. A level 3 diploma also gives me the opportunity to take my current job role further.
I have really enjoyed this programme, I've had the opportunity to gain further knowledge on areas I am not so confident in, for example radicalisation, the support I've had from my tutor has been amazing, I've never felt overwhelmed with work and was able to meet deadlines set easily.
My programme has been very organised and well structured, I have always known what work to complete and by what dead line, all units were easily accessible, feedback has always been given and helpful and meetings have always gone ahead on time, though flexible round my working pattern and shifts.
My employer was supportive, I knew who I could go to if I needed any help or support with my course, I was also given an acting role whilst I completed my course giving my the full title on completion, I felt encouraged and supported with career progression by my employer doing this.
My tutor was an amazing support during my course, we had monthly meeting but I was always able to contact her via email if I had any issues or concerns. My tutor was very encouraging when it came to giving feedback and this helped my confidence in my ability to complete the course.
Personally I feel in the care industry there is always something changing and something new to learn, working through my qualification has given me a refresher of things and some even have me a new perspective or way to do things. I feel Its helped me to preform my role better.
As a night worker I dont have the opportunity to get involved with any extra curricular activities at work, as part of my qualification I did level 2 functional skills maths which has helped me. I know my place of work does have activities for the service users that staff have the opportunity to get involved in, including trips and days out.
Yes
It's a great way to learn new skills and gain qualifications. It not as demanding as going back to school and easily fits round family life or commitments. I wish I'd done this qualification earlier but still feel I've gained alot in my career by completing it now.
It's worth doing it of its an area your interested and keen in, the support I've go has been great and constant throughout. It's never too late to improve your knowledge, skills and gain a qualification that can lead to a career rather than just a job.
