My job involves being taught about how to successfully maintain the different pieces of measuring and electrical equipment around the plants on the Syngenta site. As an apprentice I am expected to learn about every device used on site, and be able to operate/ calibrate/ maintain it independently by the end of my apprenticeship.
I have learned many new skills, such as problem solving, fault finding, working as a tea, working alone effectively and so much more. I have not once gone into work and not learned something new which will help me become better at my job in the future. I have developed my knowledge of working with electricity.
I thoroughly enjoy my program, and look forward to attending and learning every day. The job is generally exciting and fun to learn about which helps with maintaining focus. The people make it enjoyable and are very good to work with. I enjoy learning so I enjoy the apprenticeship very much.
The apprenticeship is very well managed by two apprenticeship managers devoted solely to looking after apprentices and monitoring/aiding their progress. The college has a good relationship with the employer and so communication is maintained effectively between the two entities which helps to keep each side of the apprentices activity in the loop with the others.
My employer gives absolutely everything to help and support me through my apprenticeship. They are understanding, helpful and very nice people to work under. The managers I have have every possible interest in my progress and wellbeing, giving me the utmost motivation I require to fulfill my role as an apprentice.
Kirklees college gives a lot of support when prompted to its learners. The teaching style of some tutors could be improved, but the criteria are always achieved, which is the main thing throughout the apprenticeship. wellbeing mentors are on-hand to give support to apprentices, and each mentor generally has around 50 students to look after.
Absolutely, at first some of the subjects such as materials seemed unnecessary to my electrical based role, but now I utilize what I have learned from said subjects almost every day covering basic principles in the job. The training provider does a good job at teaching the necessary content overall.
There are many extra-curricular activities on offer to apprentices which aim to build teamworking skills, sense of community, social skills, critical thinking, community aid etc. For example, as an apprentice we can go on the 'Outward Bound' residential program where we spend a week carrying out fun outdoors activities to help us socialize with colleagues, build confidence and work as a team.
Yes
The opinions of the apprentices of the employer is reason enough! Continued, enthusiastic and genuine support is provided, allowing me to feel confident in what I do and any issue a I may face both on and off the job. The employer offers so many benefits for its apprentices and employees, with competitive pay, fun team-building exercises etc. I thoroughly enjoy working with this employer.
Definitely apply for the job, possibly the best decision I ever made, absolutely brilliant experience and sought after employer, mentoring and teaching is second to none, would love to carry on my career with this company. I love working on the site and with the other employees and apprentices. The recruitment process is thorough and ensures only the top candidates get the job. Very good employer.
