  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role included assisting with the set up of the room, providing activities for the children and executing them with care, offering support to the children and staff within my room, preparing and assisting with meal times and the clean up after snack, and tidying, cleaning and setting up the room at the end of the day ready for the next.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I worked on my patience, knowledge and care for children. I also learned about early years development in children, and how important it is to nurture them in regards to them forming happy and healthy relationships with other children and adults, and helping them in enjoying nursery life and activities.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The best part of the program was getting to meet the children and form relationships and bonds with them, as well as watching them grow and learn new skills every day. However I did not feel like I was supported in regards to my coursework etc by my coach at paragon.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course was accessible and the length of time and sessions were explained, however sometimes the app would not let you see or input work. The work I was given was not explained well, and if I ever asked for more information it was not given in detail or helpful.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I did feel somewhat supported by the employer, however i constantly felt looked down upon, and like I was treated as inferior, possibly due to age or my status at the nursery, rather than as an equal to other employees. Treatment was different to others, and I felt like I was not respected as much.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I felt like I was not provided with any support really from the training provider. If I asked for support it wasn’t really given in depth, and I felt like an inconvenience. It seemed that my coach was not really interested, and I was always compared to other members of the course when everyone is very different.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I left the apprenticeship due to my mental health which was not helped by the course or the people I was working for/with. So therefore I did not complete the qualification, and I no longer work in the nursery setting. I would be concerned to join another apprenticeship in childcare due to my treatment, and I would warn people with mental health issues of the lack of support.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No not really. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bermuda Park Nursery to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • If a person I know suffered with mental health issues and was thinking about joining Bermuda park nursery, I would warn them of the lack of support felt by the other staff members and employers. Also that younger staff members and apprentices are often treated as lessers, and are not shown the same respect.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bermuda Park Nursery?
  • Rethink your decision and find a more supportive workplace. That’s it. Don’t do it really. There are much better places to work than there. Again, not much more to say on that matter to be honest, I’ve already explained the reasons why so.
