  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently on my first rotation of the HR scheme, where I rotate three times during my two years on the programme. My current role is working within the project management team, where work gets commissioned from the wider HR team, thus is very project management heavy. My latest project is working on the employee-wide survey.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've improved my project management skills as my role is heavily focused on working on different HR projects. As I'm currently working on the employee engagement survey, I've improved my stakeholder management skills through collaborating with various individuals throughout the business, as well as my analysis skills - analysing the results data.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as I get exposure to different parts of HR through the rotational scheme - here I get 3 different rotations, so I can find out more about which aspects of HR that I enjoy the most. The people here are on the whole, friendly and helpful from my experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This programme is structured very well in my opinion. There are three 8 month rotations in different HR roles. However, as there are only 4 individuals on this specific programme, I feel that there could be more clarity on what I will be doing for my next rotation and what exactly to expect. We will get more clarity soon, however I would have liked to have a clearer picture from the start

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer does support me, what I really liked about BT is that this HR scheme allowed me to also pursue my CIPD qualification alongside my work. We are meant to have around 8 hours per week dedicated to completing this which I also find very helpful, so overall I am impressed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is quite helpful. When I have questions, I can email this to my learning development coach, however this can take a few days to receive an answer. The training provider themselves have been rather confusing, and a lot has been overcomplicated in my opinion. Sometimes I receive contradicting answers to questions from different individuals from the training provider

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I'm really looking forward to starting the HR content as part of my CIPD qualification, as it will help me to become a more well-rounded HR individual, and aware of the theory. I think this will really help to boost my confidence as part of my role through being more informed.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of different activities to get involved in as part of my work. For example, I am part of an Early Careers Committee, which works to make sure that early careers individuals are having the best possible experience during their time on their programmes, and hosting networking events and other social events throughout the year. There's also GradNet, which is a space just for grads to get involved in and provide further support

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There are lots of opportunities to get involved with here. After just a month working in the business, I had took part in hosting a Q&A session with the CEO and CFO. I've worked on different projects, organised events for Diwali and there are lots of opportunities for progression into different areas

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • Research into some of the wider things that BT does. For example, we're more than just an internet provider. We support the country through critical national infrastructure, we support the Emergency Services Network and so much more. We are an organisation who promotes diversity and inclusion and a big supporter of Early Talent
