I am a telecommunications engineer so my day to day job is to install the new and upcoming fibre broadband to residential and businesses across derby. This is done by installs and faults. It’s making sure customer service is at the forefront of everything I do and to make sure everything is up and running before I leave
Yes this job was completely new to me I’ve never been in an engineering background so to join Openreach and be offered the experience I’m getting is something I feel very lucky doing and I get to meet new people every day which has definitely improved my people skills
I absolute love the programme that I’m on I feel like the balance between on the tools and classroom based is really good and I have always received a lot of support doing both. I love my job and I love being able to meet new people everyday both in and out of work
It is very well structured I feel like the work balance is good. The apprenticeship programme has been set out well over the year with our workshops and it’s always nice to have a break away from the tools and catch up with my programme tutor and other work colleagues
I receive a lot of support from my employer both in and out of work. I never feel afraid to ask questions which I feel is a massive positive in a work place because I always feel like there’s help if I need it and I can always talk to them about anything
I receive a lot of support from my training provider I feel like I can ask questions on my work and double check to make sure I’m on the right lines. Whenever I’m stuck with something I know there’s always support available and they give positive feedback when needed
It gives me a better insight to things in my job that I’m unsure of and strives me on more to become successful to gain the qualification at the end. I feel like the qualification is a very well recognised one and it will give me pride to have that behind me
Yes we have had a social event at Christmas which was great and everything in our team turned up which just goes to show how well bonded we are as a team. I always feel comfortable to attend work meetings and events because I get on with the people I work with which is a big positive
Yes
Openreach is a great place to work I have already told everyone I know about how much I enjoy the job and the benefits you get with the company are endless. It’s a career for life and I feel like I’ve fallen on my feet with the role im in because even though it’s challenging it’s extremely rewarding
Just be yourself and pride yourself on health and safety in a workplace. As long as you keep your feet under the table and work hard then Openreach will always reward you for this. It’s the best place I’ve ever worked at and I’m very excited to carry on my future with Openreach and learn more about the job
