I work mostly from home answering emails regarding tasks and booking road closures in order to carry out my primary role as a inspector of structures which is exciting and different everyday at new locations when I am out on site. I carry out inspection tasks such as half cell surveys which I then make reports on.
I have learnt how to deal in the real world of work and be responsible for tasks and roles which I must concentrate and adapt to in order to achieve the task I have set out to do. My communication ability, adaptability, sense of prospective in scale and finance have all improved.
I very much enjoy my programme my college group are lovely people and my work team is fantastic with constant support available and mentoring taking place at every chance. I am also given my own independence to learn and grow which is fantastic. Work is made out to be a depressing and slow part of life but that is the opposite of my great experience so far.
The college side was a bit slow and uncoordinated at the start but after our groups feedback and support we were able to request and get the support and correct guidance we needed to feel like we were learning and on track. It isnt hard work in comparison to A levels but can be tough to understand
I receive constant support that I dont believe I utilize enough if anything. I am always able to ask for help and receive very rapid replies to allow me to grow and learn to then be able to continue with my work and not struggle in the future.
I can get any experience I need with my training being versatile and I have been with multiple colleagues who have different tasks that I can learn about and learn more for my own growth in the field/ sector that is structural engineering. If I would like to learn more about any sector available I am able to.
I understand what my job is through better knowledge of what I am working on letting me know how structures work and are created making it much easier to identify issues when i carry out inspections and can make notes of issues that i know should not be present there.
I dont personally have any involvement in this but if they are existent which I am not sure if they are I would most certainly join and develop better relationships with them to work better and be able to feel more comfortable with colleagues I may work with in the future.
Yes
Because Kier have a fantastic set of ethics and the infrastructure it has is perfect for new workers that have not been in the sector before like myself. They have great benefits and a H/R team that really do care and work hard to answer all issues that are presented.
I would make sure that I express how important standing out is in the application process and to be brave when asked to present answers to issues. Even if the answer is wrong the confidence to try is very important and a essential skill to have when working in the future.
