  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On daily basis, my role as a Technology Innovationist/developer involves researching and prototyping proof of concepts of new emerging technologies like AR (augmented reality), drones, holographic and robotics. My day to day role also involves having regular meetings with stakeholders in the business, understanding their need and requirements, which then leads on to exploring and researching appropriate technologies that are suitable for their need.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many skills during my first rotation in Tech innovation, specially my technical skills.I have managed to become proficient in Python, Unity (also C#) and AR development.In addition, I have also developed my soft skills, by taking presentation skills training and improving communication skills by regularly engaging with stakeholders.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my program at the moment, specially meeting new people in my team and the wider AstraZeneca teams, it allows me to get exposure to many people from diverse backgrounds. In addition, I really like the work I am currently doing, as it is a mixture of researching and prototyping, allows me to really work on what i really enjoy and see value in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is structured to give me the maximum exposure to different areas of the business , and this is done by a rotation based system. This program has multiple 8 month rotations, where you get experience in different areas, and towards the end of the program, you can specialise in a team of your choice.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel like i have received a lot of support since i started, whether that has been work related or university related. I feel the managers are trained really well to manage apprentices, the give us the right amount support and guidance to kick start our early careers and be successful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The provider has been fair with their support, making sure we are on the right track and getting the suitable learning support. However, they did have some issue with communication and being clear with student, which is being resolved now. In addition there are dedicated teams available for you to reach out to if you need support in a certain area.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the module during my first term linked really well my rotation in Technology innovation. First module was python which helped me develop technical skill and ultimately apply them to my daily job role. In addition, I am also planning on aligning my university modules with my rotation in work, so i always have the opportunity to apply theory in practice.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to Covid it has been difficult to do in person activities, however there has been a great effort to run social activities virtually. We have multiple group such as AZisnpire which are focused on early careers (apprentices and graduates), and they host events throughout the year like presentation clubs where people can share the type of work they are doing.

  • 9a. Would you recommend AstraZeneca to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel the overall culture is really positive and supportive, everyone is always happy to help and provide guidance. Also, it is an amazing place to work, and it was specially highlighted during covid when AstraZeneca played a huge part in producing the vaccine. Also, you are given the opportunity to really make a difference to with your work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
  • Make sure to look on the AstraZeneca website around the apprenticeship you are applying for and the the requirements in the apprentice job profile. Also take time to learn about AstraZeneca values and think about some examples around how you can relate with them values. In addition, during the assessment center, be yourself and be honest as you go through the process.
