providing the site with technical knowledge and fixing issues that rise up. completing planned maintenance and reactive tasks. I am responsible for the electrical side of the site of things and it is a busy role and responsibilities . I am providing ideas and completing projects when i find something to improve.
i have learnt a lot of skills during my time at Thames water. electrical and mechanical including ways of fault finding and technical knowledge of 3 phase equipment, pipes. pumps, motors, VSDs, inverters and a wide variety of instrumentation. I have also learnt better communication skills and other life skills
the programme is good and you can learn a lot. i enjoy this role because it is so varied and every day can be different. i like fixing things and learning new skills and my role here allows me to do that. i know i am contributing to a good cause.
it has been good overall and the structure has been consistent. the training providers are ok however they need to be better at communication between companies and how they work with the colleges for the day release students. the thames water side is good and provide regular calls/meetings to help.
currently i recieve a lot of support when i need it from my company and they are good at listening to our needs. as it is a bigger company it can sometimes take a while to hear back or push new ideas through and this is the only downside to thames water apprentices
my trainer was always keeping in contact and ready to answer questions. my work was quickly marked and feedback given. i completed my apprenctiship early as a result of good mentoring and support from my trainer. i got my qualifications fast and there was no delay in getting them sent to me.
the qualifications i have recieved are very relative to the job i am in. we did a first year at college where we learnt how to use different mechanical and electrical equipment and that was really good to know. i got a good understanding of my job from the college side of the training
there is only one activity that i am aware of and that is the annual thames water raft race which we can geet involved in and raise money for charity. apart from that i dont believe there is anything else which is a shame because it is something i would consider
Yes
is is a good company to work for as there is a lot of job security and good benefits. they are a good company to work for and i would recommend them because the overall apprentice training is of a high standard and you can learn a lot of different things
be honest and be yourself it will help to have a good understanding of how basic electrical and mechanical principles work but not needed. if you have the right mindset and attitude you can go far and stand out. it is good to have a look up on what services the company provides too.
