I am responsible for strategy and best practice for third party motor claims. I also track, monitor and report on indemnity performance and associated metrics such as inflation, leakage, quality etc. I review financial and operational performance, and find ways to drive improvements to drive profitability of the motor book.
I have held a number of roles, each providing opportunities for development. In my current role, I have exposure to underwriting and pricing, reserving, controls environments etc, all of which provide regular opportunities to learn and develop new skills. I constantly have to upskill on new data and analysis, and present data to new audiences.
I am enjoying the programme. I am relatively new to the programme, so I have only had a few coaching sessions, and one collaboration session - but all have been helpful and enjoyable. It is currently meeting my expectations, but I do not yet feel that it is having a massive impact on my role, as my technical learning is still at a basic level (just about to complete my cert).
The programme has been well organised, and it has either been clear what is happening / needs to happen and when, alternatively, if I have had questions, it has been easy to identify who to direct it to, and I have had good, timely responses. My study materials have been received quickly.
I am happy with the amount of support I am currently getting. I do expect that there may be a need for more support in helping me to identify opportunities for learning as I progress through the programme. My leader takes an interest in my development and challenges me to do more.
I have access to the various materials available through Thrive, and my coach allocates relevant activity to me. I have bee self sufficient otherwise, but when I have had questions or needed guidance I have easily been able to get the info I needed, in a quick timeframe. All my engagement with my coach has been positive.
Currently my technical learning is not particularly assisting, however the programme a a whole is helping me to see more learning opportunities and taking them, where I may previously not have done so. I am beginning to lay some good grounding in awareness of the insurance business outside that which I see in my current role and can only see this improving over time.
Outside of the pandemic impacted time, yes there are social activities, but I tend not to engage with that many, unless they are of specific interest to me. There is the opportunity for team and individual charity work and fund raising, When I was last in the office they had begun to bring in vendors to assist with health & wellbeing, such as yoga instructor / classes etc.
Yes
RSA has always provided me with lots of opportunities and supported my development. The company feels fair and reasonable in its dealings and there is a clear drive for improvement, technically, financially, culturally. Salary and benefits have always been fair, even when they have had to change. I have enjoyed working there as evidenced by my tenure.
Do your research, understand the size and scope of the business to understand the potential career paths that may be available to you. Bring your knowledge and experience and be prepared to demonstrate how that can help to drive RSA forward, as there is a drive across RSA to seek and accept new ideas.
