I lead a team of Major Damage Claims handlers and loss adjusters, managing workloads and all HR issues, as well as supporting the organisation strategy to deal with constantly new issues. In addition I support the technical development and specific requirements of a wider team, as well as liaison with other business areas eg supply chain etc
I am constantly learning new skills, particularly since the onslaught of Covid - as this has led to a huge influx of work, with resource and knowledge issues. I was involved in planning how to address the situation, as well as introducing new suppliers, and arrange additional technical training to ensure the necessary skills were available.
Very much- the topics are varied but relevant - and all support my role for the reasons discussed above. It is interesting to meet with other individuals from different business segments, including both public and private organisations, and this allows me to compare the different approaches and strategies required in each.
Very well structured. There have been some technical issues as we are of course all reliant on technology but the overall programme follows a sensible approach. The ACE team provide wonderful support via a variety of sources, both online webex calls, readily available reference material, and the possibility of individual 1-2-1 sessions.
I have a very supportive employer. Both my leader and separate mentor are always willing to assist and support where required- and I am encouraged to take time out from my day job to ensure I remain on track with my learning. In addition, my wider network has grown as a result of various topics and everyone I have reached out to has been willing to give me some of their time.
Tutors are approachable and willing to assist either in a structured manner in the group, or separately on an individual basis if necessary. My skills coach is particularly helpful and quickly responds to emails, and arranges additional calls if she feels it will be of benefit. I have already previously mentioned the very helpful ACE team.
All the topic covered are relevant to my current role, and any future role should I elect to progress through the company. The topics are pitched at a level that provides a general understanding, with the option to delve further into any topic particularly relevant. The networking necessary has been particularly helpful as I have spoken to individuals within the business who I have previously had no reason to contact.
Social events have been curtailed due to covid restrictions but will hopefully be back again soon! There is a Sports and Social team who regularly arrange social events. In addition, the business encourages volunteering as teams, and allows time off work to do so. As regards my own team, we often get together outside work for social events, often involving meals out.
Yes
RSA is a particularly friendly and family orientated business, which is keen to ensure diversity and inclusion across all areas. There are numerous resources available for issues outside work including well being helplines, and options for flexible working patterns. Staff are generally very friendly and support each other - RSA feels "safe".
I would encourage interested individuals to apply - the existing staff are hardworking and professional, but welcoming to newcomers, and keen to support new staff to settle in. It is an enjoyable place to work, where you are free to "bring your whole self", and the fact that there are a large number of staff who have been employed here for over 20years is probably testament to that!
